Marrano of San Anton

On June 13, the feast of San Antonio de Padua, is celebrated in La Alberca a special event; a pig, also known as garrapato or marrano, is released through the streets after being blessed, and that a bell has been attached to its neck; is the Marrano of San Anton, that will remain free around town until January 17, San Anton, day that will be raffled.


This pig roams freely around the village, and the neighbors feed it, and often give it shelter at night. Formerly this pig was fattened by the neighbors, and then was delivered to the most disadvantaged or poor family; now the pig is auctioned prior purchase of a ballot. The earnings are intended to charity or an NGO.
